We talk to Peaty's pal after his Olympic gold

Our Event Manager Ryan Lovatt was in demand  after his long-time friend Adam Peaty won his historic Olympic Gold medal in Rio.  Ryan, who used to train with Adam as a teenager, appeared on ITV, BBC ,Channel 5 and Sky News talking about how the 21-year-old developed into a swimming superstar.

Ryan has been featured at the Repton pool in Derby where, when he isn’t working for us, he has been the club’s national squad coach and Number 2 to Head Coach Mel Marshall who is in Brazil with Adam and team GB.

During the interviews Ryan spoke about the messages he had exchanged with Adam shortly after his world record breaking gold medal swim. And he told the cameras about the first time he and the rest of the swim club really thought Adam could become something special in the swimming world,

"When we were both in the same swim team I recognised Adam's potential during a 100 metre breastwork race in the Ponds Forge pool in Sheffield. Adam made the turn in 6th or 7th place, and then just powered past everyone in the final 50 metres. It was an amazing performance and probably the first time that we really knew just how special he could be."

Although we’re all proud of Adam Peaty, we’re also proud of Ryan for being part of the story. That’s the kind of level of expertise we employ here at Total Swimming, and what we bring to our own swim programmes and our own junior swimmers.
