The Mayor of London helps us open our latest pool

It was another great day for the ‘Make a Splash’programme and Total Swimming when we officially opened our temporary pool at Harefield Academy.

The Mayor of London , Boris Johnson,  came down to see the facility which will provide the opportunity for hundreds of children to learn an esential life skill. He even ended up refereeing a game of water polo, which was great fun.

The aim of the ‘Make a Splash’ programme is to give children the facilities to learn to swim, who may not normally have the opportunity. The pool has already had over 500 users, ranging from school children to adults.

‘Make a Splash’ is part of the Mayor’s £25 million sports legacy fund which concentrates on getting children into sport.

The Mayor himself is a keen advocate of swimming, and took some time out of his day to explain why he is such a big supporter of the ‘Make a Splash’ programme.

“Swimming is one of the best forms of exercise, so I am delighted that the Hillingdon community can use the ‘Make a Splash’ pool to learn a skill that will last them for life”.
