Steve looks at the national statistics

Director of Total Swimming and Olympic medallist, Steve Parry asks the question “Why do a third of children leave primary school without basic swimming skills?”

In the Academy Today article, Steve highlights the importance of children learning the life skill and addresses the lack of pupils that leave primary school able to swim in the UK.

Referring to the current national statistic, he said, “I was genuinely shocked when research showed that almost a third of Year 6 pupils left school in July without the basic swimming and water safety skills. We wouldn’t allow this if we were talking about reading or writing, so why do we allow it when we are talking about water safety?”
