Speedo's 'Dive In' launch a huge success!
Total Swimming is delighted that Speedo has commissioned our company to launch the 'Dive In' campaign at the London Aquatics Centre and organise 50 events around the counbtry throughout this year.
Kirsty Gallacher and Gethin Jones were joined by World 200m Freestyle Champion James Guy, Olympic Silver Medallist Michael Jamieson and Commonwealth Champion Siobhan-Marie O'Connor.
The reason for their attendance was to show their support for the 'Dive In' campaign which aims to get 10,000 adults swimming this summer.
The purpose of 'Dive In'
Speedo’s latest survey results made for worrying reading with two thirds of swimmers unable to swim for more than four lengths and a massive 1 in 3 adults admit they are not confident in the water.
These findings have prompted Speedo to offer 10,000 free swimming sessions to adults from May to October 2016.
50 separate events are being organised with Total Swimming to take the initiative around the country. The free sessions have been designed by ex-professional swimmers James Goddard, Ian Hulme and Harry Needs.
Thoughts from the day
James Guy discussed theimportance of correct training when people are either learning to swim or trying to improve, “As with any workout, the right technique is essential in helping maximise your session.
You don't have to be an elite swimmer to have a good technique and even the smallest changes can really make a massive difference to the enjoyment and results you get from swimming."
Gethin Jones could certainly see the benefits after his free lesson with a Speedo teacher, "I've always been able to swim front crawl, but with proper coaching from Speedo my stroke count decreased and my speed increased, after just one session".
Our Managing Director, Steve Parry has also discussed why Total Swimming are proud to be part of the campaign,
"The 'Dive In' campaign is a fantastic initiative. Here at Total Swimming we believe everyone within the UK should be able to swim confidently, it really is an essential life skill. We've seen participation numbers decline over teh past ten years and we want to do our bit to reverse that trend.
We're delighted to be working on behalf of Speedo to facilitate the 'Dive In' campaign and can't wait to see 10,000 adults learning and progressing through their free sessions."
