Our Guy does it....(and he's faster than Phelps!)
He’s got his medal. James Guy, the swimmer born just a few miles from our Head Office, swam an amazing anchor leg for the British Men’s 200 metre medley relay to gain a Silver medal for the team….and the 20 year from Bury actually swam the final leg faster than legendary Michael Phelps alongside him!
James, who has appeared at our Total Swimming events this year, overcame disappointment in his 200 metre individual race when he just missed out on a medal, to storm home in a clear 2nd place in the team event - and is already looking forward to the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. He said “Weare a young team, the oldest is 23. In 4 years’time we will be fully grown men. So bring on Tokyo - we’ll be ready for that title.”
One person who was also particularly pleased for James was our Total Swimming Managing Director, Steve Parry. As a young boy James had looked up to Steve as an inspiration after he captained the British team and won his own Olympic medal in Athens.
“It’s such a fantastic night for British swimming and I’m especially happy for James. I have kept a close eye on his progress through the junior levels right up until the present day. Obviously he was disappointed after the 200 mere individual race but to come back with that performance shows what a class act he is.”
