Oceans of Fun in Milton Keynes as 250 children take part in an unforgettable event!

Total Swimming teamed up with ZOGGS to deliver two unforgettable events at Woughton Leisure Centre and Harpenden Leisure Centre. 250 children aged 7-14 years old across the two events had the opportunity to experience Fast Swimming, Mini Waterpolo, Synchronised Swimming, Rookie Lifeguarding and CPR alongside Olympic and Commonwealth athletes.

The events kicked off with a presentation from Cassie Patten, Beijing Bronze 10km Open Water Bronze Medallist Olympic Swimmer. Cassie talked the children through her journey from childhood swimming where she came 5th in her local swimming race and was disappointed with not giving it 100%, to then winning gold in the World Championships. She then told the children about her story of representing GB in the Beijing Olympics, racing against Becky Adlington in the 800m final and then winning bronze a few days later in the 10km Open Water Swimming. One parent said after the presentation “My 8 year old Daniel had a fantastic time listening to Cassie Patten's story. Also making an appearance on the day were ex GB Women’s Waterpolo captain, Fran Leighton, and Synchronised Swimmer and Britain’s Got Talent finalist, Zoe Cooper.

The children then headed to the pool to try out all of the different disciplines led by our expert coaches. Not only did the children get to try each aquatic discipline, the children were given the once in a lifetime opportunity to race one of the athletes at the end of the event, before having a photo with their medal and taking home the athletes signed autograph cards. One parent at the end of the event at Woughton Leisure Centre said “Thank you so much to everyone involved today. My daughter and her friend have come away having an amazing experience. They are both club swimmers, and are even more inspired and focused on their own personal goals. You are truly inspirational. Many thanks again”.

Suzie Forbes, ZOGGS Marketing and PR Assistant said after the event,

“As a brand Zoggs encourages healthy living and loves showing how fun the pool can be, something I believe was definitely achieved at this weekend’s Zoggs Free Oceans of Fun Day. It was fantastic to see both sessions full to the max with kids trying out brand new activities alongside developing existing skills. Watching the kids’ interactions with the athletes was great and we hope this inspires them to continue having fun in the pool. The day was a huge success, thank you to Total Swimming and the athletes for their support. We cannot wait for the next one!”

Steve Parry, Olympic Medallist and Managing Director of Total Swimming said "We are really excited to have teamed up with ZOGGS to run the 'Oceans of Fun' series. ZOGGS is a swim brand with real passion for swimming and, by using role models in the form of Olympic and Commonwealth athletes, over 2,000 young swimmers have been encouraged to take part in the programme so far. Over the next two years we hope to inspire, motivate and educate many more young people who will have the chance to come along and take part in these events for free."
