Make a Splash reaches another milestone!

Cheam Common Junior Academy tops 1000 swimmers

Another Make a Splash pool and another milestone!

A celebration day was held at Cheam Common Junior Academy to celebrate over 1000 children learning to swim in our ‘pop up pool’.

The occasion was honoured by Olympian, James Goddard. A lucky few children even got the chance to get in the pool with James and have an Olympic swimming session.

Outside of the pool he also delivered an inspirational assembly to all children at the school.

The Make a Splash project has been a key community program for the Mayor of London that has allowed thousands of children from underprivileged areas to take part in swimming lessons.

Head Teacher at Cheam Common, Phillip Hedger was delighted with the impact the pool has had on his pupils and the local community,

"We have been delighted to host a pop up swimming pool at Cheam Common this term. The Make a Splash programme has had a real impact; the number of children aged 6-11 now able to swim confidently has increased dramatically. The pool has also had a wider impact across the community, being used extensively by two other local schools, as well as children and their parents after school, at weekends and in the holidays."

The names of the children who had an Olympic swimming session with James are below:

Paddi Harland - Goddard, Henry Taylor, Sam Adams, Libby Larkin, Sofia Laurie, Aesir Fjord - Robers, Lili Oliveira, Olivia Brooks, Cerys O'Neil, Ellie Wilson, Bethany Lewis, Jack Hutton, Charlotte Knight, Isabella Hawkins, Amelia Reed
