300 Children took part in Colchester's Zoggs Oceans Of Fun

On 29th July 2015, Colchester Leisure World were hosts to a Zoggs Oceans Of Fun Day delivered by Total Swimming. This unique event, part of a nationwide series of events being held this year, gave 300 children aged between 7 and 14 years old the opportunity to experience Olympic aquatic sports and meet Olympic and Commonweath athletes.

Adam Whitehead (Olympic swimmer and Commonweath Gold Medallist) led the day by delivering a presentation on his experiences in swimming. Rosie Morris, the goalkeeper of the Womens GB Waterpolo team at the London 2012 Olympics, led the mini waterpolo session in the pool. Katie Skelton, GB London 2012 Synchronised Swimmer, taught the children the basics of the synchro moves that the GB team use in all of their performances.

The free event featured a morning and afternoon of skills and games across the different aquatic disciplines, with every participant getting the chance to try each of the sports by rotating around the stations in 5 groups. Each station was led by the athletes, an expert in the discipline, who provided instruction, motivation and encouragement to all 300 children.

As well as meeting the Olympic athletes, experiencing the different sports, receving an autograph card and having their photo taken, the children concluded with the chance to 'Race An Olympian' and each child left thee day with a smile.
