Hi Guys,
First off - Happy New Year! As you all know this year is a special
year as its Olympic year and I've been training my Cooky
Monster fur off! Lol. I started my winter training in Australia
with coach Ben Titley and his merry bunch. We started off in Sydney
at World Cup meet which was brilliant as it was the perfect
opportunity to get up and race fast, against a couple of Aussies on
their home turf, early in the season. After Sydney we moved onto
Canberra to the Australian Institute of Sport centre, where we took
advantage of the best facilities and training venues I've ever
seen. The facilities had video analysis on hand anytime, so for
example, you could get videoed swimming in any lane at any time,
then you could watch it back instantly on 40" Plasma TV's
at the side of the pool - it was class!
The pool could also be set up for any size that you required, so one session we did was maximum sprints with the pool set up as 15m long - Lots of turns I can tell you... but it was something different and exciting for a training session. So once we were finished with two weeks in Canberra we moved onto the Gold Coast and trained with the sun on our backs for two week - Love it!

With a huge block of quality training behind me from Australia I went on to the European Championships in Hungary. This was always going to be a tough meet to grab medals in because most of the competition had turned up fresh, rested and ready to race lifetime bests. I had to be smart about this competition and set myself some personal goals because I was still in heavy training and wanted to get the very most out of the meet. It proved to be a successful meet as I came away from the meet with loads of stuff to work on - tighter turns around the wall, more streamline body position whilst pushing off the wall etc - These things I can work on in training once the meet was finished.
Once the Europeans finished it was back home to enjoy Christmas and New Year with my family and my new puppy called Summer! She's so funny - Check out the picture of her.

So what's coming up next then? Well its training as usual for the next few weeks and with 10 weeks to go until the Olympic trials I will be going out to Florida for a training camp with my swim team to make the most of the nice outdoor weather and the 50m pools. I hope you all enjoy this exciting year and achieve all you can possibly dream.....
See you later
