At the very heart of the Pools 4 People Campaign is getting entire communities active. As part of the Mayor for London’s Play Sport London Campaign Total Swimming delivers pool across the city of London teaching thousands of people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to swim.
Play Sport London, as part of the Mayor's 'A Sporting Future for London' plan, aims to provide free sporting opportunities to Londoners. The Play Sport London is designed to encourage greater participation in sport in the build up to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games - and because we are passionate about swimming Total Swimming is building swimming pools and working with communities and if anyone can’t swim we will teach them!
The Pool
By employing leading pool technology this enables us to build swimming pools in almost any space. In 5 days the Total Swimming build team can construct a fully functional swimming pool. A typical pool is 12 metres by 6 metres and 1 metre deep, the optimum size for teaching a primary school class to swim. Total Swimming experts deliver all health and safety provisions, maintenance and we even have a 24hr emergency line to provide complete peace of mind for the hosts.
The Programme
The focus of the Pool 4 People programme is tackling whole communities through providing a swimming pool for 12 weeks in areas where swimming provision is poor. By building swimming pools in community buildings, children centres and schools buildings this programme is able to offer free aquatic activity to the community.
The Results
With 12 weeks of scheduled lessons and activity the impact is far reaching with over 5000 people enjoying getting active through our swimming pool. These people are then signposted to local activity opportunities to ensure that these high impact solutions have a sustainable legacy.
