Water Wings Swim School
18m teaching pool
Water Wings Swim School was a growing Learn to Swim business but with rental costs to hire swimming pool space at a record high they were struggling to find adequate pool space at a reasonable price. This was until Total Swimming came up with a solution.
Purchasing and operating your own facility has historically been unachievable for most SME swimming businesses, but using Total Swimming’s modular pools – the complete, turn-key solution is now within reach.
As well as the pool itself Total Swimming also provided all of the following:
- Feasibility study, architectural work, structural engineering
- Planning Application
- Electrical and mechanical engineering
- 4 lane 18m (1.0m depth) pool
- Decking solution (four poolsides)
- Lane ropes, teaching handrail
- Male and Female changing rooms
- PWTAG standard plant
- Reception area
- Commercial and office space, also tutoring room
- Air handling unit (pool air and water climate control)
- Reception area
- Services Installation
- Flooring, fixtures and fittings
- Plastering & decorating
The pool build and facilities came in on time and within budget at just £370,000 and took just 16 weeks to build. It is the first modular pool to be built for a learn to swim provider.
The facility was built inside and existing industrial unit (it used to be a camping shop) and uses the latest innovative and affordable swimming construction techniques.
Water Wings owner Alexandra Francis explains how working with Total Swimming turned her dream into a reality,
"At first the idea of owning our own swimming pool to teach Water Wings lessons from was exactly that, an idea, then I got in touch with Adrian Turner and the team at Total Swimming and it became a reality... a very exciting reality!
To design and build a swimming pool within a retail unit has meant huge expansion and the growth opportunity for Water Wings we have wanted for years. It has also meant all of the variables we had no control over, for example pool time, pool temperature, changing room temperature, and equipment available at the existing hired swimming pool is no longer an issue."
Director of Total Swimming, Adrian Turner feels that the pool is a blueprint for all swimming lesson businesses moving forward,
"The pool we’ve built for Water Wings sets a new ‘personal best’ for the swimming lesson industry. It’s certainly a unique facility, built as it is in a former retail space. Our modular pool technology has made it possible for smaller swim-lesson companies to find a way to own and operate their own high quality pool."
