Britain's Gemma Spofforth won the American Collegiate National Championships last month. Gemma was a European Junior medallist back in 2003, and is now training at the University of Florida. She defended the title that she won last year and joins Steve Parry and Simon Burnett as one of only a handful of British swimmers to become an NCAA Champion.
Britain's Stephanie Proud, a former European junior champion who trains with Gemma at Florida, also made the podium.
The NCAA Championships are tipped by the Americans as the fastest meet in the world. Swimmers race in a 25yard pool so good starts and turns are absolutely essential!
And, we're really pleased to see Gemma in the Olympic team on the 100m and 200m backstroke after a great Trials. She's only 20 and is over 6ft tall - after a couple of tough years, we think she might be one to watch!
