Stars of the future line up for European Juniors

The British Team for the European Junior Championships has been announced. For junior swimmers the European Juniors is the top draw event, everyone wants to go, and those who win medals tend to go on to be superstars.

Just a few examples of medallists from the past include Liam Tancock, Lizzie Simmonds, James Goddard and Steve Parry - some of our most successful ever swimmers.

The championships are in Serbia and the team comprises 44 swimmers - a huge team! You might think warn torn Eastern Europe when you hear Serbia as the venue, but these days it's a peaceful and beautiful place to go, especially in the summer!

Amongst the most experienced team members is Xavier Mohammed of Bexley. Big things are expected of the former World Youth Games silver medallist. However, 2007 was a tough season for 'Xav' and he will hope to put that behind him as he heads to Serbia this summer.

European Junior medallist from last year, Sasha Matthews of Nova, will go to another exotic location, Mexico, for the World Youth Games. She's one of 22 talented swimmers looking for more international experience on the road to 2012.

Look out for results from both events this summer, and interviews with some of the star juniors!
