Exclusive: 30 Questions in 3 Minutes with James Goddard

Triple Commonwealth Gold Medallist James Goddard recently secured a place on his third consecutive Olympic team at the British Gas Swimming Championships. After finishing an agonising fourth at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, and fourth again in last year's World Championships in Shanghai, James is bidding to get on the rostrum in London 2012 at his specialist event, the 200 metres Individual Medley.

One of the most popular members of the British swimming team, James spared Total Swimming some time from his busy training schedule to answer 30 Questions in 3 Minutes.

'Turn up and be competitive every day. Don’t let anyone beat you ever!'

 

What does 2012 mean to you in:

Swimming?

'It could be the defining year of my life so far because it's probably my last year of swimming and it’s a home Olympic Games.' 

Personally?

'My daughter gets to watch me swim in London 2012 - she’s 4 now.' 

 

How do you set your goals?

'I'm target driven and always around winning… win, win, win!' 

 

What is your diet like?

'I have a balanced diet with the odd treat every so often!' 

 

What was the biggest breakthrough in your career?

'Winning Commonwealth Gold in Manchester 2002'

 

What was the best advice you were ever given?

'Feed the lioness and starve the lion!'

 

Do you have a saying or motto that you live your life by?

'No motto’s needed. Just enjoy!'

 

Where do you draw your inspiration from?

'I try to draw it from everyone around me. Friends, daughter, family, coach, teammates... everyone!'
